Keep Doing What You're Doing

October 6, 2022 - So I have another story to tell. This time it is an update about our friend who is in jail. As you know, it took us 7 times to FINALLY get connected. Our first visit, was super special and our friend cried because he wasn't exactly expecting to see us. He had just assumed that it was his lawyer or something else bad that was getting ready to hit him. He was so excited that day.

Ever since that first visit, Steve has faithfully being going to see 'D'. They only have 20min to talk and 'D' has so much to say AND is just full of questions for Steve about the Bible. 'D' has already written (3) 10 page letters sharing his thoughts and feelings. It is his last letter that I wanted to share some excerpts from that really touched mine and Steve's hearts. Sometimes, a lot of times, you wonder if you are making any difference in the lives of people. After reading his letter, Steve told me, "Ann, we may not see any results whatsoever this side of heaven, but we should continue to do what God has called us to do, and that is to encourage others with the hope of Jesus Christ. We leave the results up to God. We are to remain faithful no matter what we see or don't see".

Here are a few excerpts -

"Being around y'all, Steve I looked at you as kinda like a spiritual adviser or mentor and Ann, I looked at you as someone which I wanted to show that I can be a different person, instead of the mean, violent racist kind of guy that I was. Some how with your patience in dealing with me one on one you brought out in me the person who I thought was long dead. You brought out goodness out of me. No one had ever broken through the walls of my defense. Then you opened the door and said, "hey, is anyone in there?" You kinda woke me up."

"Sometimes the only Bible others read is you. The folks at the cafe who come around regularly like Lynn, Amy, Dedra, Jackie and all those women in the bible study, I paid attention to. They always seem happy and they always tried to acknowledge me when I was there. I was listening to everything being said"
"We see lonliness everywhere. Many people feel cut off and alienated from others. Being in a crowd just makes people more aware of their isolation. Lonely people don't need to hear "have a nice day" they need a friend who will stick close, listen, care, offer help when it is needed in good times and in bad times. I've learned that sometimes even a smile works wonders. You'd be surprised at the power of a smile. It could make all the difference in their world and stopping them on their journey towards their destiny - death, suicide.....Life can be tough for some.

"Steve and Miss Ann", I didn't mean to get too deep on y'all but since you're in the re-construction business, I think you need to add to your name CAFE CONNECTIONS RE-CONSTRUCTION. then you could put up signs that say, WE TEAR DOWN WALLS"

I personally loved that last excerpt. 'D' has some great insight because he sees things from the other side. His letter humbled us and it opened our eyes. I have always said that 'D' wants everyone to think that he is one, big, bad dude. Personally, God has allowed me to see thru that and it's only because of God that I love this man like a brother. It is strange really. Normally, 'D' is someone that I would steer clear of. That's how I know that this is a "God ordained' friendship.

Steve and I want to say thank you so much for all the letters sent to 'D' that we have received from as faraway as Louisiana. He is overwhelmed. Please pray for 'D's salvation. He knows Jesus intellectually, but he still wonders why Jesus would even want him. I leave you with this final excerpt as it will help you to know how to pray -

"Boy, this Jesus thing is really catching on in my soul. I just wish I could figure out what I am missing. I know it's staring right at me, but the eyes of my understanding must need some super windex. But, it's coming".

Pray for some "super windex" and that 'D' can connect the dots 🙂 Steve goes for another visit on Tuesday and this time he is praying that the Holy Spirit gives 'D' understanding. We'll keep you posted 🙂
