The Love Your Neighbor Cart
November 28, 2022 - Our meals have really been a bright spot for our clients who attend classes thru Behavioral Health. Steve had an opportunity to sit down with a few of the men today for lunch. Just talking and getting to know one another.
We originally started serving meals to BHS 1 1/2 yrs ago just as a way to support them in their recovery process. Whenever we had extra, which is basically all the time, the next group to be served is our community Bible study which meets on Monday nights. Then we serve the BHS groups on Tues or Thursday nights, maybe both nights, then those who are homeless or disadvantaged get served next.
However, it's this next group that kind of surprised us. I want you to know that people who cook for us, myself included, are so afraid that someone is going to get left out, that we all make way more than we probably need.😁 Therefore, we have another group that has recently sprung up right here on Main St. It's our neighbors (shopkeepers) who run the local businesses. Whenever, everyone else is taken care of, Steve grabs the cart and I Ioad him up with delicious plate lunches. We figured that our local shopkeepers need encouragement these days probably more now than ever before.
This is the funny thing......11 years ago when we first opened our doors, we actually thought that God was leading us into marketplace evangelism amongst the store owners. However, it didn't take us long to realize that most shop owners couldn't leave their businesses anymore than we could. It's taken us 11 years, but God is now leading us apparently to now bring hope and encouragement to our neighbors on Main. We've named our little cart the "love your neighbor cart" 🙂 What fun we have been having!
The food that many of you have made and dropped off at the cafe OR donated is now bringing joy, hope and encouragement to yet another group of people. I wonder who is next?
