The Kitchen

December 13, 2022 - We have 14 Christmas parties scheduled for this year. We have 4 more to go! I have or will have catered 3 of those by month's end. Last night we hosted Cannon Memorial Baptist Church. They're an awesome group of folks. Since this was their 2nd party, that they chose to have here within a week, Steve and I went all out. Linens, silver and even an appetizer. It was so much fun and it challenged me to try some new things and do things slightly in a different way. This time we let them serve themselves instead of us serving them, and trusted that the food would hold out😲😂 They don't know this, but we let them serve their own plates, because we were plum tuckered out😂 But for God.....We had more than enough and then some. By the time the night was over, we didn't have much left.

As I told the group last night, we are not a restaurant, but we do have fun creating, experimenting and then serving those that God has called us to serve. As you know, I post a lot of pics of food and the like. It always makes me laugh when we get comments, questions and requests like I have gotten, especially in the last few weeks. Things like:

Do you deliver?
What are your hours?
Do you serve breakfast?
Will you share your recipe?
"Miss Ann, you are the best restaurant in town"!

Folks, if you ONLY knew. My precious mom tried to teach me to cook, but I wanted to save the world and I had absolutely no desire to be in the kitchen. I had gotten a degree in police administration and was determined to be a police officer, until I learned you had to RUN in the police academy😂🤣😂 Steve and our son, Ryan Corbin only knew what came out of a can or could be made into a casserole. Chicken nuggets and canned peas was ALWAYS on the menu. I think back to those days and just laugh.

God has taught me so much and most of it has been in the kitchen, of all places. He has taught me patience, determination, perseverance, and He has called forth things in me that I didn't think existed in my life. Things like being creative, how to encourage others through the ministry of food and then how to work as unto the Lord. Not man, but as unto God. There are still plenty of days that I don't want to be in the kitchen. However, when God calls you into the kitchen, you go and you pray that God will show up! For 11 years now, God has NEVER failed to show up!

In scripture, you will always find Jesus surrounded by people enjoying fellowship over food 🙂 Jesus knew, I believe, that food has a way of breaking down walls. I see it time and time again. People come in with "windows rolled up" and after a short amount of time of breaking bread with one another, those windows start to come down. My mom knew this as well.
Mom tried to teach me those lessons. What can I say? I am a slow learner. I can't help but think of my mom in heaven watching in wonder at what I have been doing the last decade and then she looks up at Jesus and smiles. If it takes time in the kitchen for Jesus to teach and to train me in HIS ways, then let's get to COOKING Jesus 😁
