Let's Dance
May 20, 2023 - I have a funny story to share with you. At least it's funny to me once I got over the initial shock. Remember when you have been told time and time again, not to assume anything, but always ask questions first? Well, I didn't follow that piece of sage advice and you can imagine my "deer in the headlights look" when I got THAT email😂
A couple of months ago BHS asked if I might be interested in catering their Student Advisory Board Graduation dinner on May 23rd. Without questioning anything about this group, I immediately said yes. I thought to myself, "a piece of cake. Probably no more than 25-30 and I can handle that". Remember that I have what I like to call my "easy bake oven kitchen". 4 walmart convection ovens, a microwave and an instapot.
On Monday, I sent an email asking for a final headcount so that I could go and get my supplies this weekend. Almost immediately I got a return email and this is what it said......"we're planning on 70"! 😳70?? Oh my goodness, and 70 teenagers at that. LOL This will probably be one of my hardest groups to please yet. This is where I live or die when it comes to doing a catered meal ever again for someone. 😂 I know.....I was in drama mode for a brief moment. lol
Even when I do a meal for 30-40 people, it is like a slow dance. It is always about the timing when working in my kitchen. If the timing is thrown off one iota, the results could be less than perfect. If you know anything about me, when I am asked to do something, I always like to go above and beyond and make the event super special.
Now, think of my little "easy bake oven kitchen" and the following menu:
Chicken Tenders
Green Beans
Mac & Cheese
Mashed Potatos & Gravy
Rolls
Dessert & Tea
This is going to be a SLOW Tango for sure. LOL I have enlisted Ingles and Vicky Hedden for dessert to help me. This morning, I am baking 5 cakes, not only for this event, but I needed baked goods for our regular folks who come in throughout the week. Tomorrow I will put together about 6 mac & cheese pies so that all I have to do is stick in the oven on Tuesday. I cheated and went to Sam's and got tea and hawaiian rolls. You do what you gotta do, right? 🙂
I will NOT sleep until Tuesday night, because I will be practicing my "dance steps" over and over in my head, if you know what I mean?😂 Here's the hilarious thing. I have been talking to the Father and I have told him that I was getting a little bored. Yes, we can all get to that point no matter how much we love what we do. I have basically told Him that I needed a challenge. Guess what? I think the Lord is teaching me how to dance not so much the TANGO, but maybe in the future, the JITTERBUG?? You utilize what you have been given now, and God will always give you more when you need it. NEVER, EVER say no to an opportunity that God places before you. Now, back to dancing 🙂
