Today a friend of the cafe stopped by to bring us some Walmart bags and to pick up her cookbooks. We were talking and she told me that God had basically impressed upon her that he wanted her to donate to the ministry. Our friend told us that she has a heart for the widows and children and she really didn't want to give her money towards helping the homeless/addicts/alcoholics. We have talked about this several times and she herself has said that she struggles with helping these folks. I told her we understand that struggle. It has taken us 12 years and a lot of humbling by God to get us where we are today. He's still not done teaching us. I get it. I also told her that God is more concerned with our heart posture, than what we do or don't do.
She then told me that she had never told anyone this, but when she needs a confirmation that this is what God wants her to do, then God will inexplicably leave a dime for her to find. I said, "a literal dime"? She said, "yes"! This morning God spoke to her and told her to bring a donation to the cafe. She tried to brush that prompting away, but when she went to get in her car, there on the floorboard was a dime! She knew God had spoken, so she responded by bringing us a donation this morning 🙂
What our friend didn't know was that Steve and I had been praying for a financial breakthrough for the cafe. We are quite honestly scrapping the bottom of the barrel. Between donors having to cut back or cut out their donations altogether and expenses going thru the roof, the ministry is hurting right now. Please understand that this is not any different than anyone else these days. We're ALL in the same boat. This is not a plea for money. My purpose in sharing this story is that Steve and I have been praying and God heard and answered our cry for help through something as simple as a dime laying on the floorboard of a car and the obedience of our friend to give. God has not abandoned us, nor the ministry of Cafe Connections. This week is proof of that. We serve an on time God.
Are we open to God speaking to us through unconventional means such as "dimes" or are we still waiting for him to unfurl a sheet from heaven with specific instructions? God speaks to me for example through "impressions" or a feeling that He "drops" in my heart. When that happens I am learning to respond immediately. He speaks to Steve through the Word.. God will use things and ways that are unique to you and that you will understand. How does God speak to you? Do you respond quickly? Are you obedient to His promptings? Think about it
