After 13+ years on Main St in Pickens, SC God asked Steve and I to trust and follow Him once again. As always, we were tentative and a bit apprehensive. It wasn’t that we didn’t trust Him but let's face it; we were 14 years older than we were when He first led us to establish the ministry of Get Up & Go Ministries/DBA Cafe Connections.

We had been down this road many times over the years, so we knew all the signs of God getting us ready for something new and different. Prior to making the decision to close the doors on the location that we had called home for nearly 14 years; we met Luke & Becca Fairchilds and their wonderful family. In 2024 months before meeting Luke and Becca, I had been praying that God would send me a chef. I felt in my spirit that God was asking us to re-start our Wednesday community lunches. I remember talking to the Lord one morning before opening the doors and telling Him that if I were to do that, He was going to have to send me a chef. You guessed it, a few months later in walked Luke and Becca. BTW – Luke is a classically trained chef. Luke and Becca began their partnership with us in July of 2024.

In October of that same year, we received word from our landlord that after going without a signed lease for 5 years (due to covid) she was now requesting a new lease and informed us that our rent would be increasing. Steve and I knew in our hearts that God was closing a door that had been open to us for many years and asking us to step out in faith and to trust Him for the future of Cafe Connections.

In January of 2025, we began the Mobile Ministry of Cafe Connections as we continue to wait on God to show us our next steps. Currently, we are doing “make & take” meals and delivering to nearly 400 individuals per month including Behavioral Health Services of Pickens County, seniors, those that are medically challenged and several businesses to simply encourage and love them.

When called upon, we also provide food boxes to those who are struggling to make ends meet. Jesus Baskets/Bags are another way that we reach out and encourage others within our community.

We have BIG dreams and hope for the future of Cafe Connections that include a physical location. However, until God opens that door, we will be mobile and continuing to live up to our motto of - “GET UP AND GO MINISTRIES”.
